When does the registration close for 14U?

    • bbozarth on March 4, 2023 at 12:20 am

It really depends on what the registration numbers are + also are you trying out for a BY team in 14u. We only have a number of seats per tryout. There are less per BY team. Are you looking to try out for another team before? I think even if the seats were filled, you could email orginfo with your hockey experience to attend a tryout near the end of March.

      • Jason on March 20, 2023 at 10:41 pm

Can you clearly state all the options for a 2008 player including A abd AA , BY etc? I am seeing multiple options on the website that all state 16U, then saw tonight on FB a 15U team. Your options are confusing.

        • bbozarth on March 20, 2023 at 11:37 pm

          Yes, there are two options..

          1) tryout for the 2008 birth year team.. those are the best players for that birth year. Once the roster is set after tryouts, they will try and place in a division (16U AA, 16U A Major, 16U A Major Gold, 16U A Minor) in PAHL that fits that team.

          2) If you don’t make that 2008 birth year team or skip that 2008 birth year tryout, you will go to 16u general tryouts. The number of teams will be determined by the number registered. Those will be the best players of both birth years combined (2008 and 2007). Right now we anticipate having 2 mixed birth year teams. Where they place is based on the roster and how they place in PAHL placement games.

The 15u team title I was asked to put for the team flyer. It is technically a 16u minor BY team.

          Does that answer your questions?

          • JASON on March 27, 2023 at 2:12 pm

If you try out for the 2008 BY team and don’t make it then get kicked down to the general do you have to to try out again and if so do you have to pay an additional tryout fee?

          • bbozarth on March 27, 2023 at 2:17 pm

You do have to attend the 16U General Tryouts to get offered a roster spot on the other teams. A spot is not guaranteed at this level. You do not have to pay an additional tryout fee. You are already registered.

Hello! I see April 22 and April 23 are designated for

    16u Midget Minor (BY 2008)

Can you please clarify, is this tryout just for 2008 BY and/or is there an intent to have a minor level 16u Midget team?

    • bbozarth on March 6, 2023 at 11:53 am

Yes, this is the 2 day tryout for the Birth Year 2008 team. We plan on having a lower level 16u Midget of mixed birth years.

      • Jon on March 6, 2023 at 1:06 pm

Great, so I assume April 22 at 4:20 and April 23 at 12:20 is geared for those wishing to join the 16u Midget 2008 birth year only.

If not a 2008 birth year, players will attend the 16u Midget general on April 25, 26…

  3. bbozarth on March 6, 2023 at 1:40 pm

Yes, well if you want to try out for the birth year team. There are some that just go to the general tryout only. Sounds like you might be in that camp.

    • Heather Urban on March 11, 2023 at 2:52 pm

Hello, Can you please clarify the meaning of U16 Y 07 Major, 08 Minor, and then general? Are Major and Minor only to indicate 07 is older and 08 younger, or does this denote 07 will have a A Major team, 08 will have A Minor, and general is TBD?

      • bbozarth on March 11, 2023 at 9:44 pm

Yes, 07 and 08 refer to the player’s birth years so 2007 and 2008. In 16U, because 2007’s are older, they are the major year vs. 2008’s are younger and they are the minor year. Major and Minor do not correspond to what PAHL level they will play at. That is dependent on the composition of the teams and what they place at in their placement games. There will be a 07 birth year team and a 08 birth year team. These are comprised of the best players of their birth year. The players who do not make those teams will go the 16u General tryout. There should be at least one mixed team of the next best players of both birth years. DId that make sense?

  4. Alex on March 6, 2023 at 11:26 pm

If a player tries out for PW birth year and is not offered a spot are they considered for mixed birth year teams? Would the player need to try out a second time for PW general? Thanks.

    • bbozarth on March 7, 2023 at 1:13 am

They would need to also go to the PW General tryout sessions even if they went to the birth year tryouts. The rationale is that some players are only going to PW General so to properly place them we need to evaluate all of the players at the same time.

      • Alex on March 7, 2023 at 10:57 pm

Understand. Is there an additional tryout fee to do so?

        • bbozarth on March 7, 2023 at 11:10 pm

Not at that point, you already paid $150 for the tryout and $100 for the BY tryout. You would come to the general Pee Wee tryout on 4/18 and 4/19.

My USA Hockey number is considered “not valid” for the registration, however I cannot register for a new USA Hockey number until April 3rd. When will registration close for 12U Pee Wee (by 2011)?

    • bbozarth on March 15, 2023 at 3:03 pm

You should be able to use your 2022-2023 USA Hockey Number before USAHockey registration opens up. Double check the number. The fourth digit should be a 3 for 2023.

  6. Rick on March 21, 2023 at 12:50 pm

I was able to sign my player up for the BY2007 tryouts with the 2022-23 USA HOckey number, however now I’m trying to sign up for the Open Skate and it’s not taking the number. I’ve confirmed it’s correct. I know others are having the same problem using the 2022-23 number.

    • bbozarth on March 21, 2023 at 1:13 pm

It seems like USAHockey is having an issue… my old number doesn’t show as valid on the site. I don’t think they have open registration yet for 2023-2024 – not till April 1. I’ll check with TeamSnap support.

It should be good now if you haven’t tried yet. The problem was around for about a day.

Quick question, are the open team skates, TK PreTryout 2 session Camps, and Tryouts all held at Printscape Arena at Southpoint?
    Thanks-

    • bbozarth on March 28, 2023 at 8:12 am

Yes, all of these events (open skates, TK Pre-tryout camps, and tryouts) are all at Printscape Arena.

  8. Todd on April 3, 2023 at 11:32 am

I signed my son up for the 2010 tryouts and wanted him to attend the 2010 BY tryouts, but it looks like I forgot to add the $100 BY fee to my son’s completed registration in teamsnap. Is there a way to add it to a completed registration?

    • bbozarth on April 3, 2023 at 11:57 am

Todd, yes I can in the TeamSnap admin. Can you send a request to orginfo@southpittsburghhockey.org also identifying your player? I can take it from there. Thanks.

How many 14u general teams will there be?

    • bbozarth on April 17, 2023 at 9:30 am

We have planned for 2 14u general teams, but that may be increased after tryouts. There is certainly a larger interest at 2009 this season.

  10. Jenn Plonski on April 25, 2023 at 5:28 pm

My son is turning 12 in May, and I believe we missed the try out date for PeeWee. Is there still anyway to have him tryout? It looked like I could register him online, but wanted to confirm and if so, when that would be. Thank you!
