19U Girls – Jeff Anderson
In his first year at SPHC, Jeff Anderson brings an extensive resume with 25+ years of coaching experience (Level 5 CEP) from the Mite to Midget levels. During that time, his teams won numerous regular seasons and playoff PAHL Championships. Jeff coached the first two years that of Morgantown's High School Team in the PIHL, the Morgantown Mohawks, where they won their section's regular season championship both seasons.
He spent 5 years coaching WVU ACHA D1 winning regular season and playoff CHMA champions including 3x ACHA National Championship Participants. Jeff was also an assistant coach for Team WV representing WV at USA Tier 2 Nationals. In addition to being a coach, Jeff spent 4 years as an ACHA Division 1 player.
16U Midget AA - 2006 - Joe Thomas
Head Coach Joe Thomas is a USA Hockey level 4 certified coach and has eight seasons of coaching experience between the PIHL and PAHL, including 4 seasons of head coaching experience in the PAHL at the 14U and 16U levels. Coach Thomas is heading into his third consecutive season as the head coach of the South Pittsburgh 2006 BY team. Coach Thomas focuses on developing teams with a positive team culture with an emphasis on controllable variables such as attitude, compete, and enthusiasm with excellence as the goal. Coach Thomas' playing experience includes playing for the Arctic Foxes and for the Bishop Canevin Crusaders.
Assistant Coach DJ Zeh's coaching experience includes eight seasons combined with SHAHA 14U A Major assistant coach, South Pittsburgh 16U A Major assistant coach, Bishop Canevin middle school assistant coach, and Bishop Canevin varsity assistant coach. Coach Zeh has been an assistant coach for the South Pittsburgh 2006 BY team for the last two seasons. Coach Zeh's playing experience includes the Southpointe Rink Rats, Pittsburgh Predators AA, Bishop Canevin varsity, and the University of Pittsburgh ACHA D1.
Assistant Coach Justin Kostosky has three years of coaching experience at multiple levels including, 10U AA, 12U A, 13U AA, 14U AA, and 16U AA. Coach Kostosky grew up playing hockey for SHAHA and then for Little Caesars AAA before returning to SHAHA to finish out his youth hockey career. In addition to being an assistant coach for the 16U AA team, Coach Kostosky is also the head coach for the Rebellion 08BY team.
16U Midget AA 2007 - Tanner Orr
Coach Orr has been playing competitive hockey for 14 years. He started his youth travel hockey career at SHAHA on a 12U B major team and ended by playing at SHAHA on an 18U AA team. He then moved from SHAHA to the Esmark Stars at the AAA level as a Midget major. He played his high school career on the South Park Varsity team during his Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. During his junior year he was named Captain. This year he is ending his college career on the Robert Morris University D1 Club. He started playing at RMU as a true freshman and was named Captain for the RMU D1 Club team for two years. In addition to his playing career, Coach Orr has been coaching for a number of years. He has been a Skills Coach for National Elite for four years, an Assistant Coach for the National Elite Spring Program for four years (a total of eight teams) and a Head Coach for the National Elite Spring Program for three years (a total of five teams). He has also been a Next Step Skills Coach for two years. Finally, over this past 2 years, he has been a coach for the Tyler Kennedy Training program and an Assistant Coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Black ’07 team.
14U Girls - Rob Hammel
Rob Hammel is entering his 4th year of coaching at South Pittsburgh, third as a head coach. Coach Hammel grew up playing youth hockey in Pittsburgh and moved to Connecticut to play high school. In the summers, he played for Team Mid-Am at USA Hockey's Select 15, 16 & 17 Festivals, tryout for USNTDP. After high school, Coach Hammel signed a tender with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and played Tier 1 Junior ‘A’ in 2000-2001. Coach Hammel then played 4 years of NCAA Div. I for the Quinnipiac University Bobcats from 2002 – 2005, winning 1 conference title and playing in the 2002 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey tournament.
14U Bantam 2008 - Justin Kostosky
Head Coach Justin Kostosky will be serving his fourth season coaching with the South Pittsburgh 14U AA major 2008 BY team. Justin also has 2 years of coaching experience at 10U AA and 12u A including serving as 10u-14u AAA Skills Coach. Justin grew up playing hockey for SHAHA, and then moved to Michigan to play for Little Caesars AAA. He then returned to SHAHA after moving back to Pittsburgh to finish his youth hockey career. In addition to being head coach for the 2008 team this year, Justin is going to also serve as an assistant for both the 16U AA 2006 Rebellion team and the Peters township JV1 team.
14U Bantam 2009 - Clay Shell
The SPGH 2009 Birth Year Team coaching staff for the 2022-2023 PAHL season.
All have been coaching for a very long time and have numerous awards and championships in PAHL and PIHL hockey.

14U Bantam B - Rob Nelson
12U Pee Wee 2010 - Sean Coyle
This will be Sean's 11th year coaching at South Pittsburgh and is currently the head coach of the 2022-2023 South Pittsburgh 2010 team. The team captured the PAHL Squirt AA Championship team in 2020-2021. He is a USA Hockey level 4 certified coach, and his coaching resume includes Mites to Bantam AA. He has assisted and developed many players to both the AA and the Tier 1 AAA level.
Sean played amateur hockey in the Pittsburgh area, including playing for the perennial champion Bishop Canevin Crusaders of the PIHL. He is currently a South Pittsburgh board member and serves as president during the 2022-2023 season. Sean also served as South Pittsburgh's Mite Coordinator for 2 seasons. He is a licensed physical therapist and brings his knowledge of kinesiology and sports medicine to the organization for off ice programs.
12U Pee Wee 2011 - Tim Creahan
Tim Creahan is entering his 4th year of coaching with the South Pittsburgh Rebellion. This is his second as a head coach. The first two years he served as an assistant coach at the Mite level for Southpointe. In addition, Tim is an active coach within the South Fayette Township hockey program, serving as an assistant coach for both the Lions mite and squirt teams. Coach Creahan has been a head coach for a number of soccer teams in the South Fayette Soccer Association, and been an assistant coach on various baseball teams within the SFBSA teams for both his son and daughter.
Tim grew up in Buffalo, NY and played amateur hockey for the Amherst Knights. Tim still enjoys playing hockey now, and his passion is coaching his kids!
12 Pee Wee - Chris Hester
This is Chris's first year coaching as a level one coach at SPHC. Since 2017, Chris has experience running the instruction inline house hockey for the Bridgeville Vipers ages 5 and up. Chris has enjoyed teaching the young kids on how to skate and play while developing a love for the sport like he has.
Chris has a long history of playing ice hockey in the community since 1989. From 1989-1992, he played with Mt Lebanon Developmental Hockey Term then with Baldwin High School Ice Hockey from 1993-1997. While playing for Baldwin, Chris was captain in his junior year and received Playmaker Award (95-96). Chris continues to play ice and roller hockey to this day. Outside of hockey, in his free time, Chris has been training in Krav Maga self-defense for the past 3 years.
10U Squirt 2012 - Klete Kutrovac
Klete Kutrovac is entering his 6th season coaching at South Pittsburgh with this being his 4th season as a head coach; he also holds a Level 4 USA Hockey coach certification. Coach Kutrovac grew up in nearby Wheeling, WV and he played hockey through high school for the Wheeling Area Hockey Association; he continues to play adult league as time permits. Coach Kutrovac focuses on teaching the kids through organized and challenging practices along with an emphasis on repetition learning. Coach Kutrovac most enjoys seeing the kids have fun, develop in youth hockey, and learn valuable life lessons while playing the game. Coach Kutrovac is a board member for the Rebellion serving as the Director of Player Development; he also serves on the executive board for Canon-Mac Youth Baseball.
10U Squirt – Brad Smith
Brad Smith is entering his third season coaching with the South Pittsburgh Rebellion. Coach Brad grew up playing ice hockey and continues to play adult league hockey. Brad has a passion for the sport and believes that hockey builds character, self-confidence, and tenacity. Coach Brad focuses on player development and bringing teams together. Off the ice, Brad is a Regional Sales Manager for an international medical device company where he attributes much of his professional success to lessons learned from hockey.
Mite Coordinator - Matt Harmon
Matt Harmon has been named as Mite Coordinator for the 2021-22 season. This upcoming season will mark the 16th team that Matt has coached as either a Head Coach or Assistant Coach with multiple youth programs. Most recently he served as an Assistant Coach for the 2020-2021 PAHL Champion 2010 Birth Year Squirt AA Team supporting Sean Coyle. Matt also served as the head coach for Southpointe's 8U White Mites, and both the Peters Township Jr Indians Mite & Peewee teams in 2020-2021. Matt has overseen or assisted in the development of players making significant year to year progress, from Blue to Red Mite, and from Red Mite to Squirt 1 with multiple players. Matt has had the benefit of working with and having great relationships with some of the area's premier High School, Collegiate, and Tier 1 Coaches, and enters the 2021-2022 Season as a USA Hockey registered Level 4 Coach.
Matt grew up playing amateur hockey in Pittsburgh, where he then went on to play D1 hockey at Duquesne University. In addition to his coaching qualifications, Matt is a USA Hockey Level 4 Ice Hockey Official and officiates ice hockey in the NCAA. Matt was also honored to be selected to officiate the 2019-2020 USA Hockey National Championships.
